Maxwell Studios LLC
In the past 40 years, I’ve written many ‘Artist Statements’. Some were insightful, some were intellectual, some were humorous and a few were even embarrassing. Now, after all this time, what it’s come down to is exactly where it started. I enjoy being an artist because I enjoy the simple task of making the art. For me the process has always had a stronger allure than standing in front of the finished piece. I love the tools I work with, the materials I work in, and the empathy I experience as I move through the process. Simply said, “I’m an artist because I’m addicted to making art.”

Lesli & Mickey Bruce
Lesli Bruce fell in love with clay 25 years ago after taking a pottery class at a local community college. After earning my BFA at UT Tyler, I had the honor of working with Gary and Daphne Hatcher at Pine Mills Pottery. I have continued my exploration with clay in my studio in Forney, Texas where I also teach art at North Forney High School. My work is influenced by my love of natural objects, their beautifully textured surfaces and by the endless possibilities and playfulness of clay. I share my life with Mickey, my two children, and a close group of friends and family. Mickey was born a dirt loving southern boy. Barefoot chasing bees, he admired plants, flowers and how things are made. Life could only lead him to meet and fall in love with Lesli and clay. At 36 he studied under James Watral and then Barbara Frey receiving a BFA from Texas A&M Commerce . Mickey spent the next 5 years working along-side Watral as lab technician at Eastfield Community College. He now works at Trinity Ceramic Supply helping others in the clay world. Mickey continues to look for inspiration through the natural world for pattern, form structure and design in search of surface beauty along with functional forms that please the senses.
